Terasaki at Sotheby’s
NEW YORK CITY—Sculpture from the Collection
of George Terasaki will be offered
by Sotheby’s, New York, on November 19,
2019. This sale will coincide with Sotheby’s
major sale of American art to be held the
same day. It will be the fi rst standalone offering
of American Indian art at this auction
house in several years.
George Terasaki had a legendary eye for
quality, and throughout his long career
he inspired many of the top collectors and
scholars in the fi eld of American Indian
art. The selection of eighty works will
include important masks and sculpture
from the Northwest Coast, as well as
sculpture from the Southwestern United States,
including a selection of early Hopi kachina fi gures, a
key group of which came from the collection of the
artist Jo Mora (1876–1947).
Highlights from the Terasaki Collection will be
shown during Parcours des Mondes in Paris in September,
then during the major contemporary art and
impressionist and modern art exhibitions in early November
in New York, before the opening of the full
preview exhibition on November 16.
