A local leader identified as Nimbé Wana or Lessesié Coulibaly in Lataha, Côte d’Ivoire, reportedly offered this sculpture—exceptional for its combination of a figure pair—to colonial administrator Gilbert Bochet later in the decade (Gottschalk 2002: 63, 93; Christie’s 2002: 138–41, lot 249).
