MARCHÉ de l’art 26 TEFAF 2015 Maastricht—The most awaited event in Europe and indeed the world for art and antiquities, The European Fine Arts Fair (TEFAF), will be held from March 13–22. This year it will host seven galleries specializing in tribal art, which is one more than last year. These will be among the nearly 300 participants from twenty countries who will come together for the show. The newest addition is Galerie Bacquart from Paris, which has been selected for the TEFAF Showcase. Jean-Baptiste Bacquart will offer a number of important African sculptures with prestigious provenances: Jacques Kerchache, Robert Jacobsen, and Allan Stone, among others. Lucas Ratton, also from Paris, was part of the TEFAF Showcase in 2013 and will return this year as a full exhibitor with a strong selection of works, the cornerstone of which will be a Byeri Fang figure. This was formerly the property of the artist and collector Arman, and the elegance of this sculpture has been admired in numerous important museum exhibitions, including the famous 1935 African Negro Art show at MoMA in New York. Didier Claes of Brussels also will return to Maastricht following his successful debut there in 2014. He will exhibit a group of African masks from the collection of Dr. Alex Rafaeli, who was born in Riga, Latvia, in 1910, and moved to Jerusalem in 1954, where he formed a significant collection of modern art Below: Seated figure.
