ART in motion and African masks. Included in this group are a hitherto 28 unpublished Guro mask from Côte d’Ivoire, acquired from Paul Guillaume and probably the work of the Master of Bouaflé; a Kwele mask from Gabon with a classic heart-shaped face highlighted in white; and an elegant Yaoure mask with horns from Côte d’Ivoire. Well-known TEFAF veteran Anthony J. P. Meyer will host aficionados in his booth for the eighteenth consecutive year and will show works primarily from Melanesia and Polynesia, including a fine Tongan apa’apai club. He will also feature Eskimo art, and among these objects will be snow goggles and a fine and delicate archer’s wrist guard from Alaska’s Bering Strait. Other long-time participants that visitors will have the pleasure of seeing again will include the Bernard de Grunne Gallery from Brussels with African art, the Entwistle Gallery from London and Paris with African and Oceanic material, and Galerie 1492 from Paris, which will present Pre-Columbian art. PARIS ART DESIGN Paris—There will be three representatives of tribal art at the nineteenth annual Paris Art Design (PAD) show, which will be held March 26–29 at the Tuileries. Yann Ferrandin will be showing at the event for the first time, offering a selection of works representative of the level of quality and aesthetic merit he strives for all year round in his new gallery at 33 Rue de Seine. Two other participants who have long been present there, Galerie Afrique from St. Maur and Galerie Flak from Paris, will also be showing. Flak will present a thematic exhibition titled Design Primitif, featuring antique works from Africa, Oceania, and North America selected for their purity of line and the stylization of their forms as seen from the perspective of trends in contemporary design.
