This engraving depicts ten of the idols that Pomare II of Tahiti presented to London Missionary Society missionaries on Mo‘orea in 1816, about ten years after his renunciation of idolatry. Pomare asked the missionaries to send the idols to London so that Europeans could see for themselves “Tahiti’s foolish gods.” Temeharo is the large object at center.
