On view until 2 August 2015, Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation, the BP exhibition now at the British Museum, is that institution’s fi rst major exhibition devoted to the history and cultures of Australian Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders. It draws on the results of a research project spanning several years involving staff of the National Museum of Australia and anthropologists and historians at the Australian National University. The exhibition includes objects ranging in date from 1770 until 2015. The British Museum’s collection of pre-1860 material is particularly signifi cant, as many items were collected from the early days of British colonization before many museums were established in Australia.
