30 THE ANDRÉ BLANDIN COLLECTION Saint-Maur-La Varenne—It is no secret that André Blandin loved African bronzes. He had a large number of them, some of which were published in Afrique de l’Ouest: Bronzes et autres alliages (1988) and Fer noir d’Afrique de l’Ouest (1992). Some 1400 examples of objects in metal, iron, copper, brass, aluminum, and gold from his collection, which was largely made up of objects from West Africa where he lived for nearly thirty years, were exhibited at Galerie Hélène and Philippe Leloup in 2001. This year, on April 5, several hundred of these metal artworks, as well as a few wooden sculptures, will be sold by auctioneers Lombrail Teucquam at the Hôtel des Ventes in Saint Maur, just south of Paris. AMERICAN INDIAN ART SALE Paris—A major exhibition devoted to the arts of the Plains Indians will open this spring at the Musée du Quai Branly, so it isn’t surprising that auctioneers Tessier, Sarrou & Associés have chosen this time for a sale of important material from this area, which will take place on April 4 in Room 2 of the Hôtel Drouot. The lots can be inspected on the day before the sale at the preview. The auction features the collection of Maurice G. Dérumaux, which, among other things, includes American Indian artworks collected by Paul Coze in 1930, whose collecting trip that year was sponsored by the Musee National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, as well as by the Scouts de France. The material he acquired was shown at an exhibition at the Musée d’Ethnographie du Trocadéro from May 15 through June 15, 1931. Currently, 117 of those pieces are held in the collection of the Musée du Quai Branly.
